How I became my own life coach first and turned my life around for the better to live my best life yet.
Growing up for me was a totally different experience than for most. I was raised in a religiously strict home with high standards and expectations for spirituality.
There were pros and cons to this upbringing. The pros: I learned the importance and foundations of a relationship with a higher power. The cons: I lived a sheltered and secluded life with limited exposure to other people, and in the process, I developed early on a judgmental nature in regards to others.
Over the years, I stayed close to my faith, but I learned to evolve my thinking, perspective, and beliefs about myself and others.

The year that shook my life
In 2014, I was at a “high point” in my life. I was married, and I had lots of family and friend support and relationships in my life. I worked at a challenging, but rewarding job, and was growing mentally and professionally.
Then in 2015, life took a drastic dip for me. My mother who was in remission with stage 4 stomach cancer, became ill again as cancer quickly spread throughout her body leading to her death.
Within a few months, due to escalating reasons, I made the decision to end a marriage of 17 years to my high school sweetheart.
I was in a car accident that year which injured my back and made physical activity/exercise, and even walking at times extremely difficult.
At one point during that year I was unemployed and I let go of several relationships and friendships with people whom I had close connections with but who I realized had drained my energy from giving to myself and to my children.
I had legal issues to now deal with, and had to hire 3 lawyers to work through personal issues for different areas of my life. Then to top it off, I received a 10,000 IRS claim letter that I had to dispute.
I would eat and eat as my outlet and started to adapt a few other habits that were not congruent with who I am. I didn’t really know who I was any longer.
How I redefined my life
So I fell on my knees and prayed. God answered my prayers, and at that moment my heart was transformed.
It felt as if a heart transplant had happened and all the weight and burden was lifted. I gained peace and a clear vision for my new future.
This would be my new normal. I learned the gift of acceptance and practiced for myself what I taught to others about the importance of taking care of their own needs. I became my own life coach.
Over the next few years, I started to intentionally take care of, and make time for me.
I sought emotional support through finding the right counselor. I hired a personal trainer to help me develop more consistent lifestyle patterns for fitness and nutrition. I connected with my church and became more involved in smaller groups, single moms’ ministry, women’s bible study, and small home-based life group.
I learned more about God and declared his word over my life daily as I read and studied my bible. I stopped letting fear and anxiety, which I had dealt with all my life, dictate my life choices. I chose to use my story not as something to be ashamed of, but to fuel my passion.
I started writing books as a positive outlet. I started journaling, developing courses and training from all my years of experience to teach and help others. I started intentionally doing things that made me smile and happy, so I could teach others some of the tools that worked well for me from experience. I started taking and practicing yoga and meditation.
